Electricity and natural gas bills in myDATA
A business’s energy bill arrives every month from the same provider: one consistent classification is enough, as long as it is the right one.
Short answer
- Category: 2.4 · General expenses with VAT deduction.
- E3 code: E3_585_011 · Energy (the same for electricity and natural gas).
- VAT classification: VAT_361, with the line’s net value as the amount.
- The combination is allowed for document types 1.1, 2.1, 5.2 (credit note) and 13.1 (AADE table).
What to check
- That the bill is for the business premises and not a home.
- If the document has several lines, each line is classified separately: lines that are not energy consumption do not necessarily take the same code.
- The provider’s credit notes (refunds, offsets) take the same code, so they reduce the right expense.
Why it matters
If the bill is left unclassified, its amount is prefilled in E3 under code 585_016 together with every other unclassified expense (AADE’s E3 FAQ).
Because the same provider appears every month, one mistake repeats twelve times a year. Keep the same classification for the same provider and only review it when something changes.
